Man hospitalised with head injuries amid reports of axe being used during brutal attack by three thugs in Stirlingshire village

A MAN was left hospitalised after a brutal attack in a Stirlingshire village - amid reports axes were used.

The 42-year-old was ambushed by three thugs in Cowie at around 9.30pm last night.

He suffered head injuries and was rushed to Forth Valley Royal Hospital where he is still receiving treatment.

Locals on social media reported seeing "three guys running about with axes" and suggested the victim was attacked with the weapons.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police in Forth Valley are investigating following a serious assault in Stirling.

"The incident happened around 9.30pm on Tuesday 11th June in Hilton, Cowie.

"A 42-year-old man was attacked in street by three males and sustained injuries to his head. He was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital where he continues to be treated.

"Inquiries to identify those responsible are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to come forward and quote incident number 4340 of the 11th June."

The pizza factory worker suffered chest wounds in the savage attack, with witnesses claiming he was stabbed as he went to help a drunk woman who fell out of the passenger side of a white Ford Fiesta at around 10pm on Monday.
