Edinburgh fire crews scrambled to busy Debenhams on Princes Street after ‘smoke from escalator’

EDINBURGH fire crews were scrambled to a busy Debenhams store in the city centre after an early morning alarm.

Worried locals spotted SFRS teams outside the shop on Princes Street shortly before 9am.

It's understood that smoke was spotted coming from an escalator.

But SFRS teams confirmed that they had been called out to the shop on the busy road.

It's not clear if there have been any injuries.

A spokesperson said: "We are currently dealing with a call at Debenhams on Princes Street.

"Crews remain at the scene at this time".
