Punters fight to save iconic Inverness music venue Ironworks that faces demolition in ‘absolutely insane idea’ to build hotel instead

PUNTERS are desperately fighting to save an iconic music venue in Inverness that faces demolition to make way for a hotel.

Revellers insist 'the absolutely insane idea' of tearing down Ironworks would murder their 'thriving music scene' and be 'detrimental' to the area.

The community now fear the city centre will be 'choked' with hotels if the bar is wiped out for good.

They are terrified they will be forced to miss out on business and opportunities in the 'weak idea to regenerate' Inverness.

A petition has now gathered more then 1,500 signatures begging for the popular venue to be saved to avoid 'a detrimental effect on local community'.

People from across the country have gotten behind the campaign sharing their reasons for wanting to stop the pub from being torn down.

One said: "The Ironworks and Inverness are the hub for many of us unable to get to Glasgow or further afield so easily.

"It is in an amazing spot, close to local amenities, and can see why a hotel would look good there. But there is no more space in central Inverness for hotels, there just isn't the parking for them.

Another agreed: "Inverness, as the only city in the Highlands, NEEDS to retain a dedicated music venue.

"Another ugly chain hotel contributes nothing to the local community - this plan brings only detriment to local B&B and guesthouse owners, music fans in the area, and the variety of offerings in the city centre for both locals and tourists.

Someone else argued: "This venue has been around for many many years, it would just be a horrid shame to take that away for the community of Inverness and even further a field.

"Such as The Isle Of Skye, and even my family from New York and British Columbia!

"Even my younger family loved it age 11 plus, just a good venue.

"Don't ruin it with a Hotel. Do you really need another?

Another commented: "An absolutely insane idea to continue to choke the city centre with hotels instead of experiences (things for visitors and locals alike to actually do).

"The Ironworks is an important part of the city and hosts a diverse range of events.

"The loss of this venue would be immense to the community of Inverness.

"A big business hotel, based in London, is a weak idea to regenerate the city centre."
