And the retired nurse is convinced someone is hiding key information that could help crack the murder probe — as cold case cops revealed they’ve identified a potential witness.

Morag, of Beauly, Inverness-shire, said: “I cling to the hope that one day we’ll find their remains. To have a funeral would mean everything to me.

“I think about them every day. It never gets easier. I’m worried I could pass away before anything is found.

“Even after all this time I believe there are people who know what happened.”

Renee, 36, had split from millionaire hubby Gordon and was involved with his accountant Bill MacDowell — dad of Andrew, three.

Her BMW was found 12 miles south of her home in Inverness with a bloodstained rug in the boot.

Of the plot she has chosen, Morag said: “I’ve had a bench put there for them and go and sit sometimes. I’ll never give up hope of getting justice.”

Detective Inspector Brian Geddes told how officers reviewing the case have discovered an anonymous letter in police files from 1982.

Appealing for the author to get in touch, he added: “It says they were in a quarry the night Renee disappeared and heard something potentially suspicious. We need to explore that further.”
