Detectives, who are investigating whether the mum of seven was caught in a gang feud, are now braced for revenge hits after the horror in Gracemount, Edinburgh.

A source said last night: “It didn’t really matter whether Teresa or Thomas answered the door. It was all about delivering a message — in the form of acid.

“The next day a Mr Big in the city announced there’d be retaliation. This immediately put cops on their guard.

“They are worried about potential repercussions.”

Tams, 45, is a close associate of hood Robert Kelbie. The fraudster, 34, was shot twice in a car park in the capital’s Newcraighall in 2010.

And he fled his Ratho Station home in 2016 after it was blasted by Gerard Docherty, 42, a crony of Kelbie’s long-time rival Mark Richardson.

Richardson, 31, was part of a £200million, nine-strong supergang nailed on abduction, torture, gun and drug offences in January.

He was caged for eight years and nine months at the High Court in Glasgow.

He got a further 18 months’ jail in May for culpable and reckless homicide after a car chase with cops in 2016.

Richardson and Kelbie have even cosied up with Glasgow’s warring Daniel and Lyons crime clans respectively.

Teresa suffered horror facial burns and lost part of her ear in Friday’s 8.40pm attack.

She told how she feared she would die as the substance “melted” her face.

Cops said: “Our investigations are ongoing.”
