ScotRail services to Inverness face delays as person dies after being hit by train

The person was struck on the tracks between Carrbridge and Kingussie, near Aviemore

SCOTRAIL services to Inverness are facing delays after a person was hit and killed by a train.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the person was struck on the tracks between Carrbridge and Kingussie, near Aviemore around 10.30am this morning.

Police and ambulance teams are currently on the scene where the person has sadly been pronounced dead.

Rail services from both Glasgow and Edinburgh to Inverness now face disruption as the line remains closed after the tragedy.

ScotRail tweeted: “We’re working closely with the emergency services on this incident.”

Rail users can still travel from Inverness to Perth, Glasgow and Edinburgh via Aberdeen.

The rail operator also said they are trying to arrange replacement bus services to Inverness and Perth.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "At 10.34am today officers were called to the line close to Aviemore, following reports of a person being struck by a train.

"Paramedics are also on scene however a person has sadly been pronounced dead.

"Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

"This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.
