Miracle Ayrshire baby who ‘died’ twice during open heart surgery in first week of life is back home and thriving
Little Summer was born with a rare genetic defect that starved her organ of oxygenated blood
PROUD parents show off their miracle baby — who ‘died’ twice after having open heart surgery in her first week of life.
Amanda Carson, 26, and Brian Black, 25, feared they’d lose Summer after she was born with a rare organ defect.
But she battled back from major surgery and is now back home and thriving.
Vet worker mum Amanda, of Irvine, Ayrshire, told how medics discovered a rare genetic defect that starved Summer’s organ of oxygenated blood after her birth at Kilmarnock’s Crosshouse
Hospital in December.
Five-month-old Dundee twins have never left hospital as they need open heart surgery – but are not strong enough to operate on
She said: “She was taken to the cardiology team at the Roy- al Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow who said she needed open heart surgery. It was so scary.”
Following the ten-hour op Summer suffered two cardiac arrests and a collapsed lung.
Amanda said: “Twice they had to resuscitate her as she was gone. It took four attempts to bring her back. It was terrifying.
“At one point I told Brian, ‘I don’t think she’ll make it.’ The doctors were amazing.”
