A witness feared the woman was going to die during the attack at her flat in Shettleston.

She fled out the window, but Docherty caught up and continued battering his former partner.

Docherty eventually stopped and left the stricken woman.

He later tried to visit her in hospital - but fled when he spotted police.

But, Docherty was soon held and has been jailed for 18 months at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

He pled guilty to assaulting the woman to her injury and permanent disfigurement.

The attack happened after Docherty had been refused entry to the flat.

He managed to barge in and then headbutted his ex.

Prosecutor Suzanne Fotheringham said: “She tried to run away.

“She then went to the window and jumped from the first floor and screamed for help.”

But, Docherty grabbed her as she then tried to clamber over a fence.

The court heard the thug punched and kicked the cowering woman.

Miss Fotherinham added: “One witness thought he was going to kill her such was the force used.”

The victim has been left scarred for life after needing stitches for an eye wound.

She also had bruising on her head, hands and arms.

Ian Brechany, defending, said Docherty remembered little of what happened as he was drunk.

Docherty already had convictions for violence.

Sheriff Norman Ritchie QC said: “This was an appalling attack on a your former partner.”
