Aberdeen win Michael Ruth race amid Rangers and Hibs interest in Queen’s Park kid

ABERDEEN have beaten Hibs and Rangers to snap up teenage striker Michael Ruth from Queen’s Park.

The 17-year-old had a trial with Rangers last summer and played in a tournament in Dusseldorf.

They kept tabs on his development last season, while the Dons and Hibs started tracking him in the final few months of the campaign.

Ruth made his Spiders debut last April, but he failed to make another appearance until March and went on to score once in the final seven games.

Now he has told the League Two side he is heading for Pittodrie.

A Spiders spokesperson said: “Michael is going to take the chance of  full-time football in Aberdeen’s youth academy and we wish him well.”

Meanwhile, defender Sam Roscoe has quit the Dons to sign a two-year deal at Ayr United.

The 6ft 5in Englishman, who turns 21 on Saturday, started his career at Blackpool and spent last season on loan at Alloa.

Ayr manager Ian McCall said: “Sam is a left-sided centre-back with a serious presence about him.”
