Rangers vs Feyenoord: Dutch fans set to march through Glasgow ahead of Europa League clash

FEYENOORD fans are set to march through the streets of Glasgow ahead of their clash with Rangers.

Local media in Holland report that the Dutch fans will congregate at George Square during the day before making their way to Ibrox in time for kick-off.

Feyenoord are struggling to sell their bumper allocation for their opening Europa League showdown.

The Rotterdam side were handed 2,600 briefs for the clash against Steven Gerrard's Gers side in Matchday One of the competition in Glasgow.

But they've only managed to sell around 1,400 tickets with almost 1,200 tickets remaining unsold.

Feyenoord fans have blamed the high cost of a ticket for their lack of backing, with visiting supporters being charged 51 Euros for an Ibrox brief, including a booking fee, which converts to almost £46.

The game will be demmed a high risk encounter due to Feyenoord's notorious away following in Europe.

In 2015, they took 7,000 fans to Italy for a Europa League clash with Roma and there was a mass riot with police in the capital.

Feyenoord were forced to close a section of their stadium after the Dutch FA hammered supporters for use of pyrotechnics at a derby clash with Ajax last season.

They were initially ordered to close an entire stand in their famous De Kuip stadium.

But they won an appeal against the decision and will now only have to close a section of their ground for their Eredivisie clash with Den Haag on Sunday.

Rangers will again have a section of Ibrox closed after UEFA punished them for sectarian singing.

Superintendent Craig Smith, who will lead the policing operation for the match, said: "Our extensive planning is well-underway and when Rangers and Feyenoord meet in the Europa League in Glasgow there will be a comprehensive policing plan in place.

"We have been working closely with both clubs and others, such as British Transport Police, to ensure everyone who travels to the match, including those who want to walk to Ibrox Stadium, can do so safely and watch the match in a secure environment."
