Outlander and Shetland star Douglas Henshall giving up London after 30 years for Glasgow home

The Scots star, 52, shared the news with fans on social media

OUTLANDER star Douglas Henshall is packing in his London life for a move to Glasgow.

The 52-year-old, who starred alongside Sam Heughan in the hit STARZ show,  is returning to his Scottish roots with wife Tena and their daughter after after more than 30 years in the English capital.

The star — who also plays DI Jimmy Perez in BBC drama Shetland — shared the news with his 36,400 fans on social media.

Posting on Twitter, he said: "Well the last couple of days have been quite momentous.

"On Wednesday, Tena and Anja headed of to Glasgow.

"And today, having overseen the movers and after 30 odd years of London living, I am following them.

"Farewell London, we are off to become Weegies."

Outlander co-star Caitriona Balfe, who plays leading lady Claire Fraser, was quick to reply - joking: "That calls for a party."

And his moving news has racked up more than 5,000 likes as celebs and fans alike wish him luck in Glasgow.

Fratellis bassist Barry said: "all the best for the move home, man."

Scots actress Kim Allan, who stars in Netflix hit Outlaw King, added: "Wooop wooop. Welcome home to you and the fam. Slainte."

And George Paterson wrote: "Did the same last year after about the same amount of time away. I don't regret it for a moment.

"Best of luck with the move and welcome home."

 

The Scots actor earlier revealed filming has started for series five of Shetland.

But he admits the hit show has turned the island into a murder capital - despite it being one of the safest places to live.

Meanwhile, Outlander bosses are giving Scots the chance to work on one of Scotland’s biggest telly shows by becoming an apprentice.
