A TOP Scots chef who stars in a Netflix cooking showdown said the microwave oven is “the worst invention ever”.

And he claimed our love of convenience food has fuelled the worldwide obesity crisis.

In a simmering swipe at the time-saving kitchen gadget, Graham, boss of award-winning Dundee restaurant Castlehill, said: “The world is too fast and no one has time to cook healthy food.
“The microwave oven is the worst invention ever.”

He went on: “You never see adverts for the slow cooker.

“That’s a shame as I think there should be one in every home. Bung in your ingredients, vegetables, meat, stock, and you have a healthy meal by the time you get home — job done.

"Far better than any ready meals full of s***.”

The former Michelin star holder will compete with 23 of the world’s best chefs on telly series The Final Table, which starts this week.

Each show features celebrity ambassadors and food critics to judge the dishes. A UK-themed episode features Match of the Day’s Gary Lineker and TV host Cat Deeley.

Graham, of Oban, Argyll, said of the multimillion dollar show: “We filmed in LA and it was mental. The size of the stage was immense.

“We got woken up at 7am and didn’t get back to the hotel until midnight.

“It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done but I’m proud of myself and proud to have represented Scotland.”

Graham became the youngest chef to retain a Michelin star in 2009 when he was a cook at Ballachulish House in Inverness-shire, and has also appeared on the BBC’s Great British Menu.
