20-year-old man found dead in Rockville after apparent bicycle crash

A 20-year-old man was found dead Monday evening in Rockville after an apparent bicycle crash, Springdale police officials said.

The body of Bryce Hagenson, a Rockville resident, was located around 7:30 p.m. by a pedestrian walking near Grafton Road, near the bottom of a steep incline, said Springdale Police Department spokesman Officer Britt Ballard.

Hagenson was reportedly found face down in a ditch with his bicycle resting on top of him.

Ballard said it appeared as if the 20-year-old had ridden down the hill on his bike and failed to navigate a turn in the roadway, resulting in the crash.

Ballard said Hagenson was not equipped with a helmet and that the 20-year-old was likely traveling at high speeds down the hill.

"It is a tragic accident," Ballard said.

Ballard said he did not know when the crash had occurred.

The 20-year-old had been reported missing by his mother less than an hour before he was discovered, officials said.

According to Ballard, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Hagenson's mother told police that her son had departed their home around 10 a.m. but had not returned.

As Springdale police were investigating the report, Hagenson's body was located.
