Sporting success for Sheffield Hallam students

Sheffield students have been enjoying sporting success as they bring home medals from events across the world.

All of he students are studying at Sheffield Hallam University. Kickboxer Trinity Leeson-Rice brought home the bronze for both the team and individual competitions at the European University Games in Zagreb, Croatia.

Trinity visited Zagreb for the games alongside fellow student Zakir Zaraki who competed in the Taekwondo category.

Trinity said: "As kickboxing has only just been given Olympic recognition, to represent Team Hallam and have their support at the first European combat championships was an honour. The standard of competition was off the scale, and to earn two bronze medals felt incredible.”

Elsewhere, Joe Litchfield brought home the silver medal in the swimming at the World University Games in Naples, Italy.

Three other students competed in the games, with Connor Carpenter and Peter Pickford competing in the waterpolo events and Izzy Carpenter represented Team Hallam in the archery.

Meanwhile, the Sheffield Hallam Formula Student team went to the Silverstone Circuit, home to the British Grand Prix, to take part in the annual Formula Student competition.

The team achieved 21st overall in the competition, beating their previous personal best.

To take part in the competition, engineering students must design, produce and race their own car as part of a team.

Following their success, the team recently met the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, during his visit to the university.

The Duke was introduced to a range of research and development projects led by the university, and also met the team.
