Piers Morgan slams Jameela Jamil for branding whole of England racist over Meghan Markle and Prince Harry jet row
PIERS Morgan has slammed Jameela Jamil for calling the whole of England “racist” during a Twitter rant about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry using private jets.
British actress Jameela, 33, prompted a response from outspoken TV host Piers, 54, after wildly claiming that England hates Meghan “because she’s black”.
She tweeted to her 891,000 followers saying: “Ugh. Dear England and English press, just say you hate her because she’s black, and him for marrying a black woman and be done with it God dammit.
"Your bullying is so embarrassing and obvious. You’ve all lost your marbles. It’s 2019. Grow up.
Piers Morgan, who has clashed with Jameela on Twitter before, then hit back pointing out Jameela was accusing “all 55 million people in England of being vile racist bullies”.
He added: “I suggest YOU grow up, Mrs Jamil, you pathetic virtue-signalling twerp.”
Piers also took issue with Jameela defending Meghan and Prince Harry using private jets with her argument of it “wouldn’t be safe” for normal fliers if they flew commercial.
This followed pictures of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex boarding a 12-seater Cessna jet with son Archie Harrison in the South of France being released this week.
The Good Place actress, who one of the 'Game Changers' on the front cover of Meghan’s guest-edit Vogue wrote: “And ALSO, it’s not safe for us to be on the same planes as royals or presidents you absolute muppets.
“They are prime targets for kidnap and sometimes assassination.
“It’s in the interest of us civilians to not be endangered by proximity to people in such powerful positions.”
Piers retorted: “Even by your standards this is hilariously stupid.
“The royal Sussex eco-warriors flew in BA economy to Nice last year – nobody died, from memory”.
The Sun says
ANOTHER day, another two-bit celeb virtue-signalling their way to an invite to Frogmore Cottage.
Jameela Jamil has now decided that “England” is racist because Harry and Meghan are being questioned about their jet-setting ways.
What idiocy. The criticism is because the eco-warrior Royals have been tootling around on a private jet while hectoring the rest of us to stop having kids and stop going on holiday.
Playing the race card is offensive.
The twitter rant follows Meghan, 38, and husband Harry, 34, being accused of hypocrisy after recently speaking out about environmental issues, then using private jets for trips around Europe.
They took four private jet flights in just 11 days, and the flights would have generated an estimated seven times more emissions per person than if they had flown commercially.
There are more than 20 scheduled departures from London airports to Nice each Wednesday, with an EasyJet return costing £232.
Piers added that it is "not 'racist' or 'bullying' to criticise Meghan & Harry for preaching about the environment then jumping on endless private planes."
He argued that the royals should "practise what they preach" and critics are simply "calling out hypocrisy".
Sir Elton John defended the couple for taking the jet, saying he booked it for their "protection".
Piers isn't the only person to have criticised the trip, with Greenpeace’s chief scientist Doug Parr saying that it’s “not okay” to assume the trip was “carbon neutral” after Elton said he had made a donation to Carbon Footprint to offset the carbon costs of the jet.
GREENPEACE CHIEF SCIENTIST SAYS ELTON JOHN'S CARBON OFF-SETTING SCHEME WILL HAVE NO 'MEANINGFUL EFFECT' ON CLIMATE CHANGE
Elton John said that he had made a donation to Carbon Footprint to offset the carbon costs of the jet he booked for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
But Greenpeace’s chief scientist Doug Parr said that it’s “not okay” to assume the trip was therefore “carbon neutral”.
It is estimated the couple’s return flights from England to Nice generated around seven tonnes of CO2.
Many of the schemes run by UK registered company Carbon Footprint focus on putting in place systems which stop CO2 being released into the atmosphere.
One scheme, for example, helps to provide efficient stoves to Kenya villagers, who currently burn wood and charcoal to cook.
Dr Parr said to the Mail: “They're not wrong things to be done, but they're not the answer that's meaningful in terms of the climate challenge we face.
“The two aren't equivalent. If you've got big puffs of CO2 which come out almost instantaneously, yes over years and years it gets slowly absorbed but over those years it's been warming the planet.”
According to Carbon Positive Life a single tree can absorb 48lbs of CO2 per year – so it would take 321 years to absorb seven tonnes.
Piers previously tweeted when the jet photos were revealed, and said: “Jeez... these two 'eco-warriors' are something else. Beyond parody."
Prince Harry recently gave an impassioned speech about climate change at Google Camp to celebs believed to include Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney and Harry Styles.
He also repeated his vow to only have two kids because of his eco-concerns.
