The rarest baby names in England and Wales revealed, including Prue, Sunday and Ugo

PARENTS are frequently turning to unconventional names to try and make their child stand out.

From delving into the history books for traditional titles to creating their own spellings, established names are slowly falling out of favour with some mums.

And popular culture has also been a great source of inspiration for unusual names, leading to a few Daenerys and Sansa’s born in the last few years.

While the most popular baby names are published each year, there are also stats on the rarest names.

The ONS (Office of National Statistics) records all the names given to children each year, and the 2017 list – the most recent year for which data is available – has some truly unique monikers.

More than 3,000 names in England and Wales were so scarce in 2017, that only three children were given them.

Some common names with a spelling twist appear, such as Ysabella, while others have turned to date-themed names, including October and Sunday.

Conventional objects have also been used for inspiration, including Tulip and Hennessey.

And for boys, fairy-tale character Hansel makes an appearance, while Kent and Ferris also make the list.
