But it is on the Home Office list of approved sponsors for skilled workers from overseas.

But Sajid Javid is now trying to strip the controversial organisation of its Tier 2 licence on the grounds that it opposes British values.

The Home Secretary said: “One of the most prominent organisations that rejects our shared values is called CAGE.

“I will act against those who seek to divide us wherever I can. So I have amended the guidance for sponsoring migrant workers.”

“This will allow us to refuse or revoke a sponsor licence where an organisation behaves in a way that’s inconsistent with British values, or that’s detrimental to the public good.”

He vowed: “I will do all I can to ensure groups like CAGE are not trusted with the privilege of sponsorship and to see it removed.”

CAGE has also been among the most vocal critics of the Government’s Prevent plan to stop vulnerable people turning to extremism.

CAGE has been given an A rating, meaning it is meeting all its responsibilities as a sponsor.

Its spokesman Cerie Bullivant said: “Sajid Javid’s gratuitous mention of CAGE is an opportunistic deflection and dog whistle that has absolutely no impact on our work.

Only yesterday his government enshrined impunity for torturers while CAGE represents and demands justice for the survivors of this abuse.”
