Watch Carlisle striker score cheeky goal by hiding behind the goalkeeper before sneaking up and stealing the ball

Hallam Hope seized possession from the bewildered Notts County stopper Ryan Schofield to roll home one of the most bizarre strikes of the season

CARLISE striker Hallam Hope scored the cheekiest goal of the season after he hid behind goalkeeper Ryan Schofield before sneaking up and stealing the ball.

A Kane Hemmings double had Notts County on course for victory at Brunton Park, but the Blues were given an unlikely route back into the match after Hope's bizarre strike.

Heading into the final 15 minutes of the game, the County keeper pushed his defence up for a long goal kick, blissfully unaware that striker Hope was lurking behind him.

Schofield rolled the ball a few yards in front of him which was Hope's cue to dash up behind the helpless keeper and nick the ball to net his 11th league goal of the season.

Although the game will be forever remembered for the bizarre strike, the Everton academy product's efforts proved to be in vain as Carlisle fell to a 3-1 defeat.

Lewis Alessandra quickly restored County's two-goal advantage but the surprise result was not enough to see them move out of the League Two relegation places.

Notts County remain in 23rd place, four points from safety, while Carlisle fell out of the play-off places as they slipped to eighth.

While Hope may have claimed English football's most bizarre goal this season, Polish side KS Cracovia topped that worldwide effort last month.

Cracovia play their reserve team at their Jozef Pilsudski Stadium on New Year's Day every year, a tradition which is almost a century old.

During one passage of play, the senior side wearing Cracovia's traditional red and white stripes use all 11 players to shield the ball from their opponents.
