Cardiff Met Uni lads will quit the booze as they try to make Europa League history
STUDENT side Cardiff Met Uni will cut out the booze in order to make Europa League history.
The Welsh side — the first British student-only team to qualify for Europe — have been drawn against Luxembourg’s Progrès Niederkorn in the Preliminary Round.
The Welsh Premier League side beat Bala Town in a play-off to claim the country’s last European place.
But skipper Bradley Woolridge has ruled out any stag-do sessions when they fly out for the first leg on June 27 as they eye a place amongst the continent’s elite.
He said: “For us it’s probably the biggest game potentially we will all ever play, so it won’t be a jolly.
“In an ideal world we would have liked to have had the away game in the second leg so we could have stayed on and celebrated in Luxembourg if we won.
“But with the trip in the first leg, the jolly will be more for friends and family who are travelling with us.
HEADS DOWN AND FOCUS
“For us it’s about preparation now — we have been training four days a week with practice matches at the weekends since qualifying.
“It’s head down and focus on football for the time being.”
Bottom-seed Cardif Met face an uphill battle to get through to the next stage — facing a Progres Niederkorn outfit who were top seeds in the Preliminary Round.

And for the majority of the team it will be their first taste of travelling to games by air.
“There was one occasion when we flew up to Stirling for Welsh Prem game but we’ve never left the UK so it will be slightly different,” the defender added.
“But our experiences of travelling up to north Wales and staying in hotels overnight will have prepared us well, and the boys will relish the trip. We have confidence in ourselves.”
