Arsenal hero Robert Pires tells Paul Pogba to stay at Manchester United

ROBERT PIRES has urged Paul Pogba to stay at Manchester United.

Arsenal legend Pires believes the France star — signed for £89million in 2016 — still has something to prove in the Premier League and needs to repay United’s faith in him.

Pogba, 26, is being linked with a £150m move to Real Madrid to play under France legend Zinedine Zidane.

But countryman Pires said: “Paul Pogba has football to play in the Premier League.

“I know this season especially was very difficult. A lot of people talk about just the transfer because Man United spent a lot of money. Maybe that was difficult for him.

“I know Madrid and Zidane want Paul Pogba but, for me, the most important thing is to continue at Manchester United. It is one of the best clubs in the world.”

Pires, who will play for the World XI in today’s Soccer Aid for Unicef match at Stamford Bridge, feels Pog must prove he was worth the then world-record fee it cost United to re-sign him from Italians Juventus.

He added: “Manchester United will play in the Europa League next season and every player wants to play in the Champions League.

“But, for me, it’s very important for him to stay in Man United.

"When the club spends a lot of money like this for you, it’s because they believe in you.”
