THE routes and timetables for Boxing Day bus services funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority have now been confirmed.

Between 9am and 6pm on Wednesday, December 26, buses will serve over 80 routes, up to every 30 minutes, into city and town centres, retail locations and hospitals.

Destinations include Birstall Shopping Park, Bradford, Brighouse, Castleford, Dewsbury, Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Huddersfield, Leeds, Leeds Bradford Airport, Pontefract and Pontefract General Hospital, Pinderfields Hospital, Dewsbury and District Hospital, Shipley, Todmorden, Wakefield, Wetherby and the White Rose Centre.

A full list of the services and timetables can be found at wymetro.com.

MCards, ENCTS pass concessions and bus operator season tickets will be valid, otherwise normal operator fares will apply. People planning on making several journeys could benefit from buying a £5.50 MCard Day Saver.

Cllr Kim Groves, Chair of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Transport Committee, said: “Prior to the Combined Authority funding these services, no bus services ran on Boxing Day. Based on the feedback we have received from passengers we have been able to extend and develop these services since 2007 and we continue to see demand for these services with over 60,000 passenger journeys last year alone.

“This year, over 80 services will be operating to and from the main areas where shops will be open, as well as enabling people to meet family and friends, visit people in hospital and enjoy local events. We know how important travel around the region is during the festive period and by funding these services are providing people with vital transport links, which otherwise they might not have had access to.

“Throughout the festive period we would encourage everyone to consider leaving their cars at home and take public transport. Full details of the services are available at www.wymetro.com, where people can also find out about money saving MCards.”
