CITY’S season looks to be over after League Two clubs voted today to finish early.
The EFL held another meeting with clubs this afternoon where they unanimously agreed to stop now.
The current top three - Crewe, Swindon and Plymouth - are set to be promoted with the play-offs still expected to take place.
It is still unclear if a club will be relegated to the National League.
City have voiced their opinion that there should still be relegation as well as promotion, however the final table is decided.
But a poll of the clubs overwhelmingly suggested that no team should go down this season. That would save bottom side Stevenage, although the final ruling would come down to the FA.
An EFL statement said: "No commitments were made in this respect and the board will now consider the implications of the division's preferred approach at their next meeting."
The decision to halt the incomplete season, which will need the approval of the EFL and FA, has been taken on financial grounds.
City, like many clubs in the lower divisions, have furloughed their players and staging the remaining games behind closed doors without any income would cost them money.
