Andy Murray is unlikely to make an appearance at the Murray Trophy in Glasgow next month despite announcing his intention to compete in tournaments on the second-tier ATP Challenger Tour.

The three-times grand-slam champion concluded his American hard-court stretch with a second consecutive singles defeat in the first round of the Winston-Salem Open on Monday. He will not compete in the US Open, which begins next week.

Instead, Murray, 32, believes that he is best served contesting Challengers in the coming weeks in an effort to build up his match fitness. Options include tournaments in France, Spain and Turkey.
