Inspired by the huge attendances for women’s football in Spain and Italy this season, Brighton & Hove Albion’s women’s team are hoping to set a domestic record for the number of fans at a league match when they play their final home game of the FA Women’s Super League season against Arsenal at the Amex Stadium a week tomorrow.

The average attendance at Broadfield Stadium, Crawley, where Brighton’s women usually play, is 494 but, when they moved their league game against Charlton Athletic to the Amex in December 2015, 3,256 fans turned up. The Amex holds 30,000 and the record for a WSL game in England stands at 5,052, when Arsenal and Chelsea met at the Emirates Stadium in 2012.
