Two members of a leading Scots hunt have gone on trial accused of breaching foxhunting legislation.

Timothy Allen, 41, and Shaun Anderson, 28, of the Buccleuch Hunt have pleaded not guilty to deliberately hunting a fox with a pack of dogs.

The offence is alleged to have been committed on land surrounding Whitton Farm near Morebattle, Roxburghshire, on December 20.

The trial at Jedburgh sheriff court is being seen as a test of the Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act 2002. Its main purpose is to ban the use of dogs to chase and kill wild animals, but it provides exceptions which allow dogs in certain circumstances and for the fox to be dispatched by a gun.
