The Football Association is to appeal against the six-week ban and £75,000 fine given to Daniel Sturridge for a breach of betting rules, having argued that he should have been banned for a minimum of six months.
Sturridge will be able to resume his career on July 31 after the final four weeks of the ban were suspended by a regulatory commission. The former Liverpool striker attacked the FA for its decision to appeal, but the governing body believes anything less than a six-month ban would “wholly fail to reflect the gravity of the case”.
