Edinburgh beach busk founder wants heir to make bigger waves

A “wild” idea pursued by an entrepreneur keen to bring musicians to his beloved Edinburgh beach has mushroomed into an international festival rivalling Fringe events and drawing crowds of up to 20,000.

Now the creator of the Edinburgh Big Beach Busk, which features hundreds of buskers from Bolton to Brazil on a strip of Portobello promenade, is looking for a successor.

The venture, which has been a shot in the arm to local businesses, began when Paul Lambie invited friends to play music one August afternoon a decade ago. Some were disgruntled by the difficulty of finding performance space during the festival and brought more friends until about 80 were performing along the length of the promenade.
