The building boom in Scotland’s capital is continuing with Edinburgh on course to become the country’s largest city.

Research published today suggests that there have been more plans for construction projects in the past three years in the capital than elsewhere.

With more than 9,000 applications the city is 45 per cent ahead of its nearest rival, Glasgow, and almost double that of South Lanarkshire.

Andrew Kerr, chief executive of City of Edinburgh council, told a Built Environment Networking event that the population of the city was set to rise by 50 per cent by 2050 and would beat Glasgow’s by 2032.
