Lyra McKee’s murder has prompted a “sea change” in attitudes to dissident republicans in Derry, the PSNI has said.

It comes as the Free Derry corner was repainted with graffiti to disown those responsible for the killing.

The 29-year-old investigative journalist and activist was shot dead on Thursday night as she covered a riot in the Creggan area. It is believed she was killed by the New IRA, a terrorist group that opposes the peace process.

Ms McKee was shot in the head as she stood behind police officers being attacked by dissident republicans. The PSNI had been searching for weapons and ammunition in the Creggan estate amid fears of violence at a march marking the anniversary of the Easter Rising today. The event was
