The world’s first academic institute to study charity is to be established in a new £2.5million 72ft high tower at the University of Oxford.

Plans for the Oxford Institute of Charity were prompted by the collapse in 2015 of the children’s charity Kids Company amid claims of mismanagement and questions about its performance. It will look at ways in which the leadership, governance and impact of charities can be strengthened.

It will seek to become a global centre of research into charity and promote the study of charities at undergraduate and postgraduate level, both at Oxford and other universities.
