A pilot has been arrested over the death of a Premier League footballer who was a passenger in a light aircraft that crashed into the English Channel.
David Henderson had arranged for a fellow pilot to take Emiliano Sala on a return trip from France. He is suspected of manslaughter.
Sala, 28, had just signed for Cardiff City when the Piper PA-46 Malibu flown by David Ibbotson crashed north of Guernsey on the night of January 21. It later emerged that Mr Ibbotson was not qualified to fly at night and should not have been carrying commercial passengers.
Mr Henderson, 64, from York, is a private pilot who worked regularly for Willie McKay, an agent who was linked to Sala’s transfer from FC Nantes.
