A harbour that for centuries bustled with activity but fell into disuse years ago will be brought back to life to attract an additional 250,000 visitors and a multimillion-pound cash boost to the city of Stirling (Jeremy Watson writes).

The city’s Old Harbour and the transformation of its waterfront is predicted to generate an estimated £10 million each year for the Stirling economy.

In medieval times the port on the banks of the River Forth was among the most important in Scotland but the site has been a largely untapped asset since the 1940s.

A regeneration project is under way to restore the River Forth as a key feature and “gateway” to the city for the first time in more than 70 years.
