A millionaire Indian businessman was so disappointed by Highland hospitality that he decided to buy three hotels to “show them how it should be done”.

Sanjay Narang took the step after paying £120 a night for what he claimed were dirty rooms, cold water and microwaved meals served by a carpenter.

Mr Narang, 56, from Mumbai, visited Inverness-shire in April last year for a hiking holiday with his sister, Rachna. By May he had decided to buy Letterfinlay Lodge House in Spean Bridge, Cluanie Inn in Glenmoriston and Craigard Guest House in Invergarry for a total of almost £3 million. He plans to spend a further £6 million refurbishing, rebranding and extending the hotels.
