Stenton House stands on the north bank of the River Tay near Dunkeld, Perthshire, downstream of a pool where a record-breaking 64lb salmon was caught in 1922. One of 12 original casts made of the monster fish is kept at the property, which was constructed in the Victorian era and has 12,129 sq ft of living space.

Thanks to underfloor heating and temperature-control panels in every room, this is not a country house in which you need to keep your jumper on. In a nook on its south side, a conservatory has been built to catch the afternoon sun. It connects to the dining room/kitchen, designed by Clive Christian, which has intricate woodwork and a long central island where you can tuck into breakfast pastries
