A wind farm in view of the Scotland-England border is to go ahead after developers challenged a decision to refuse their initial application.

Twelve large turbines will be built on land close to the Carter Bar, which has been described as the most spectacular crossing into Scotland from the south.

Energiekontor UK, based in Leeds, were refused permission for the Pines Burn wind farm on the Harwood Estate near Bonchester Bridge, Roxburghshire, by Scottish Borders council, who received 54 objections as well as opposition from the area’s six community councils.

They were unanimous that the seven 150m (495ft) turbines and five at 130m would have an adverse impact on the landscape.

That decision has been overturned by the Scottish government’s planning and environmental appeals division.
