One of the oldest institutions in the City of London is facing claims of sexism, assault and bullying against female staff.

Women at Lloyd’s of London say that they have been harassed and attacked by male bosses and persuaded to stay silent after complaining.

Male workers at the insurance market refer to female employees as “totty” and rank them from one to ten on their “shagability”, according to an investigation by Bloomberg Businessweek, the finance trade journal.

It details how female assistants were employed based on their looks by underwriters seeking to win more business with traders, calling them “box girls” or even “box bitches.”
