Fears are growing that this summer’s Orange parades may attract anti-independence protesters and raise tensions on the streets.

There were significant clashes in Glasgow last year when loyalists attempted to block a republican march.

A source close to the police claimed that individuals had warned that the prospect of a fresh vote on the future of the Union may fuel trouble. The source said: “There is the potential for trouble. We saw very serious disorder last year. This year indyref2 tensions are added to the mix. It could inflame things at a time when we’re stretched for resources.”
