Dan Biggar’s Grand Slam hangover cure was to go back across the Severn Bridge and watch Northampton Saints.

While a good number of Welsh heroes will have been nursing a sore head, the fly-half hot-footed it back to the Midlands and watched Saints beat Saracens to lift the Premiership Rugby Cup.

Every contribution Biggar made to the Championship triumph was telling, none more so than as an early replacement for George North in clinching win over defending champions Ireland.

But it hasn’t taken the Morriston man long to move on from Saturday night’s celebrations

“I have come back down off the cloud – it’s been a quick week, the week has flown by,” said Biggar, who was leading a coaching session on behalf of Land Rover at Market Harborough RFC, putting East Midlands rivalries to one side, in aid of supporting grassroots rugby.

“It’s been a really enjoyable week. Saturday was amazing, we had some good celebrations and amazing achievement,

“I came back on Sunday afternoon and got back in time for kick-off at Saints.

“It was great to see the club win a trophy. A lot of the younger lads who haven’t won a trophy before will take a lot of confidence from that medal.

“I’ve had a bit of stick off the lads, but it’s not been too bad. I do feel very outnumbered as a Welshman in England right now!

“It’s died down now and back to business I guess. I feel pretty good physically and I’m really excited to get going again.”

Biggar failed to fully grasp the opportunity afforded him as starting fly-half in a generally sloppy display against Italy in Round Two.

Yet as an experienced finisher he was unrivalled and showed his class from the tee and in broken play against England.

It seems his summer move to the Gallagher Premiership has paid dividends and the 29-year-old has bought into every aspect of his relocation across the border.

He’s a Saints devotee to such an extent that he feels for it to be a perfect week, he’d need to taste victory in their Friday night derby clash with Leicester Tigers at Welford Road.

“As good as Saturday was, if we can pick up a win as Saints away at Welford Road, it’d be tough to beat that as a week of rugby.

“That would set us up as a club for the rest of the season and the run-in.

“The move has opened up everything for me.

“The people and the setup are great and it’s a great part of the world. Hopefully there are some good times ahead in the Northampton shirt.”
