Valentine's Day is over, but animals at Little Rock Zoo are still feeling the love

Valentine’s Day may be over, but animals at the Little Rock Zoo are feeling the love.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Valentine’s Day may be over, but animals at the Little Rock Zoo are feeling the love.

The zoo held what’s called ‘I Love Little Rock Zoo Day.’

Many animals were given their own gifts. Zoo staff said it was all about appreciation for the animals. Valentine’s cards were all about animals at zoo.

“Throughout the day we’re having keeper chats where we talk about animals and their love and then also giving them enrichment, which is what you see behind me,” animal keeper Karen Caster said.

Visitors learned loving facts like how an ostrich will care for another birds’ chicks when needed.

“We hope that they get inspired by our animals and learn a little bit about some of the ways that animals love each other,” Caster said.

The animals were in for a treat as well, as they got their own teddy bears treats and streamers.

“We share the world with them, so we want people to have an appreciation for animals and respect their habitats,” Caster said.

Zoo guests said they hope to show the animals the same love they get from seeing them.

“I like to come and talk to the animals I like to watch the elephants and the babies the gorilla and chimpanzee play, they have a lot of personality,” Jill Brun said.

“Animals are very loving, they are very unconditional so it’s very important that we love them just the same way,” Rob Brun.

This was just the start of events for the holiday weekend. On Monday, Feb. 18, they will hold a special meet and greets with penguins and a bald eagle, which will kick off at 11 a.m.
