Medical marijuana edibles officially hit the market in Arkansas

The state’s two operating dispensaries – Doctor’s Orders and Green Springs Medical – received their first shipment of cannabis gummies on Friday.

Medical marijuana edibles are now available in Arkansas – one month after cannabis sales began in the state.

The state’s two operating dispensaries – Doctor’s Orders and Green Springs Medical – received their first shipment of cannabis gummies on Friday.

Doctor’s Orders manager Bud Watkins says the phone has “rang off the wall” with calls from patients looking for an edible option.

“It's going to be a game changer,” Watkins said. “People in this day and time don't necessarily want to smoke, but they want the effect of the medicine.”

The only edible currently available is a grape flavored gummy manufactured by Bold Team cultivation facility in Cotton Plant.

Dragan Vicentic, owner and CEO of Green Springs Medical, says there are specific regulations related to packaging and product varieties.

“They try to limit it to something that's not a gummy bear or cartoon character that wouldn't entice a child,” Vicentic said.

Both dispensaries, located in Hot Springs, anticipate added variety of edible products in the near future.

As of June 11, the facilities had sold a combined 169.29 pounds of medical marijuana since opening in May, according to data from Alcoholic Beverage Control.
