Arkansas father and son duo seeking redemption at the next Chiefs game

John Yates was spotted consoling his son on national television after the Chiefs lost to the Patriots last January. Now, they're both ready for redemption.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A lifelong Chiefs fan, John Yates, wanted to take his son to Arrowhead Stadium last January to see Kansas City try and win their first AFC Championship.

"We thought it might be a once in a lifetime experience," John Yates said. "And we decided to be there for it."

But, the game didn't quite turn out the way they expected.

"They lost," said Jack Yates, with a sigh. "And so, I felt really frustrated so I just laid down in my dad’s lap and thought about things."

The Yates still got their once in a lifetime moment when the CBS broadcast caught it on camera. It was a touching moment for the world to see--a father consoling his son. Soon, the Yates were bombarded with calls and texts.

"I remember just my dad’s phone buzzing every five seconds, just buzz, buzz, buzz," said Jack. "And he ignored it for a little bit, and then he looked at it and he saw me at the end of the game and I’m like, 'no way I’m on TV!'"

As exciting as it was, being on national TV didn't make up for the fact that their favorite team suffered a crushing loss.

"It was very tough to have that feeling of when the Patriots fans were cheering and our whole section was mad, frustrated, and sad," Jack said.

In that moment, there was only one thing that was on Jack's mind.

"I was just thinking about the disappointment, and what would happen next year," he said.

The Texans gave the Chiefs, and the Yates, a scare last Sunday. But John and Jack will have another chance to see Kansas City try and win an AFC Championship.

But win or lose, there's something more important than a title and it's the time the father and son get to spend together.

"We have some great talks on the drive up to Kansas City," John said. "We just really enjoy the time together."
