A SILLOTH teenager is heading for Oxford after achieving top A-level results.

Alana Halpin, 18, from Silloth was delighted to achieve four A*s, and an A grade yesterday, meaning she will now take up a place at Oxford University to study Biology.

A pupil at Nelson Thomlinson School, in Wigton, she said: “I’m amazed. I keep looking at the results thinking ‘am I reading it right?’.”

Her mum, Dee Bosward, was full of emotion after finding out her daughter’s results.

She said: “I couldn’t be be more proud. There isn’t a more deserving person.

“She always has her head in a book. It’s well deserved.”

Callum Clarke, 18, from Gilcrux exceeded his expectations achieving one A* and three As meaning, he has been accepted to St Andrews University to study economics.

He said: “It was a nice surprise. I’m over the moon.

“I’ve wanted to study economics for the last few years, since about year nine or 10.”

Headmaster, Sam Northwood, said: “We are delighted with our results and our students have achieved some excellent grades once again.

“Early indications are that the vast majority of our students have been successful in securing their offers for university, apprenticeships or work-related training, as is the case every year at NTS.”

Josh Clarke, from Wigton, was happy with his results and has now made the decision to go through the clearing process to find a place at the University of Cumbria to study physiotherapy.

Achieving three Cs he said: “I’ve never passed English Language so I’m so buzzing with that.”

Zara Berwick, also from Wigton, is excited to move to Edgehill University in Lancashire to study Primary Education after securing two Bs, a C and a D.

She said: “I’m very happy. It was what I expected.

“I was up early and just kept refreshing the UCAS system to see if I had been accepted.

“I cannot wait to start a new journey at Edgehill.”
