STAFF and students of Victoria Infant and Nursery School have raised over £2200 for Macmillan Cancer Research in a nationwide event.

The Workington school raised £2275.61 on Friday September 27 for The World's Biggest Coffee Morning.

Macmillan's coffee morning event was taking place nationwide and the school on Islay Place hosted stalls, a guess the teddy's name competition and cake sale.

The school raised £1275.61 and worked with Cheryl Smitham of Barclays to secure another £1000 from the bank.

KS1 lead Jessica Mossop said: "We are so pleased to have raised such a good amount for Macmillan Cancer Support. Every pound counts and would make such a difference to people living with cancer. I want to thank everyone who came or donated and made it a success."

Schools and venues that participated were sent Macmillan's Coffee Morning Kit including recipes, bunting and collection boxes.

Macmillan is supported almost entirely by charity donations.

In 2018, the World's Biggest Coffee Morning raised a national amount of £26,914,382.

The £2275.61 raised by Victoria Infant and Nursery School will go towards help Macmillan in supporting over 2.5 million people with cancer in the UK. The number of diagnoses is expected to grow to 4 million by 2030.
