A MCDONALD’S worker has gone viral with his quick wit while taking orders at the drive-through.

Ruben Smith, 21, from Greysouthen, near Cockermouth has worked at two branches in the county where his jokes and singing has entertained customers.

He previously worked at Whitehaven’s McDonald’s for five months where the entertaining first took off.

Ruben explained: “It started in Whitehaven when a woman who was upset because she had just lost someone close to her came through the drive-through.

“My quick wit and enthusiasm lifted her up on this day.

“They even called the day after to thank me.”

Ruben moved to the Penrith branch in October this year after having a six-week break.

He felt he couldn’t gel with the staff at the premises in Whitehaven which is why he decided to make the move to McDonald’s at Penrith.

Since moving to Penrith, he feels much more part of the team and more comfortable.

Ruben loves to entertain people which is why he takes people’s orders with an added twist.

“I’ve always been a bit different,” added Ruben.

“I come from an entertainment background.

“I like to be unique and different.

“I like to give people a laugh and a unique and different experience.”

The 21-year-old was filmed taking someone’s order while making jokes and singing.

The video which appeared on the LADbible has been shared over 16,000 times and has more than 15,000 comments.

He was completely unaware that the video was being taken.

The McDonald’s worker added: “It was a complete surprise to see myself go viral.

“I have my own entertainment business I am in the process of setting up.

“But I had to get a job to see me over Christmas, I just wanted to keep a low profile.

“I’ve read all the comments and they are great.

“I don’t feel like I am anything special.

“Everyone has been so positive.”

When he first started he didn’t know how people would receive it or how his employers would react, but Ruben was extremely surprised.

“When I first started it I thought am I going to get told off,” said the drive-thru entertainer.

“I was on probation in Whitehaven and I’ve started my probation again here so I thought am I going to get fired.”

However, things have gone in the opposite direction. Ruben was awarded employee of the month and employee of the quarter at Whitehaven, as well as employee as the month for the franchises in the area.

He is now in the running for employee of the month for Penrith too and employees are often asked why they aren’t more like him.

Ruben explained: “A lot of people think they are not going to be able to do it as good as me.

“I find myself to be quick minded.

“I’ve been told by others that when I am working other employees are on a high. It’s the whole team that get a lift.”

Ruben is hoping to earn enough money from this job to expand his own entertainment business and go into film making.
