Platte River Power Authority this month will hold a second round of community listening sessions to update residents and businesses on the status of its 2020 Integrated Resource Plan.
The Integrated Resource Plan is produced every five years and provides a road map for how energy will be generated and delivered to Platte River’s owner communities of Longmont, Estes Park, Fort Collins and Loveland.
The community meetings will feature a summary of resource modeling scenarios, a discussion of key assumptions and results from various impact studies including market analysis, regional economic analysis and distributed energy resources potential, among others.
While a range of generation resources are evaluated, the plan will focus on identifying noncarbon resources in response to direction provided by Platte River’s Board of Directors to pursue a 100% noncarbon energy mix by 2030.
Currently, about 30% of the energy delivered to Platte River’s owner communities comes from noncarbon sources. That number will increase to approximately 50% by 2021 with the addition of 225 megawatts of wind power and 22 megawatts of new solar (plus battery storage) capacity.
The first meeting will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Longmont Museum, 400 Qual Road.
Other meetings will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at :
- Thursday at the Rialto Theatre, 228 E. Fourth St., Loveland
- Oct. 23 at the Ridgeline Hotel, 101 S. St Vrain Ave., Estes Park.
- Oct. 24 at the Fort Collins Senior Center, 1200 Raintree Drive. Fort Collins’ Our Climate Future community conversation precedes the event at 4:30 p.m.
