Assam recorded a sudden increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases over the past few days, thus leading the state government to announce a new lockdown.

While some countries in the world seem to have already conquered in the battle against the deadly coronavirus, India's battle against the deadly virus only seems to get worse. And that is why some states across the country are imposing lockdowns and restrictions again in an endeavour to curb the spread of the virus in their regions. Case in point: Assam -- the state's authorities announced a lockdown in its capital city Guwahati on Friday after it recorded a sharp increase in the number of new confirmed coronavirus cases. Set to come into effect from today, the new Guwahati lockdown will remain in effect for two weeks. So, as the city goes into lockdown, here is a list of the new travel rules in Guwahati. 

1. The state government has declared this as a total lockdown in Guwahati, i.e. nothing save for hospitals and pharmacies will be open for the first week. 

2. A 12 hours-long curfew will be observed across the state at night, between 7 PM to 7 AM throughout the new lockdown.

3. A weekend lockdown will also be placed on other districts across Assam.

4. All movement in public places is banned. So, unless you are facing a medical emergency, you are not allowed to step out during till 12 July. This also means the use of public transports as well as private vehicles is banned.

5. If you have a train or a flight to catch, you will not be required to get a travel e pass; instead, your ticket alone will suffice.

At the time of writing this story, the total count of COVID-19 cases in Assam stood at 6,816. In the last two weeks, the state recorded 677 new infections, thus prompting the stringent lockdown in Assam's capital city Guwahati.
