Delhi air quality remains in 'good' category as overall AQI drops to 78

Delhi NCR pollution level today: The air quality in Delhi improved considerably after heavy rains on Sunday. SAFAR predicts rains in the coming days leading to clean air in the city.

New Delhi: Heavy rains on Sunday lowered air pollution in the national capital leading to clean air in the city. The air quality in Delhi remained in the 'satisfactory' category on Tuesday with overall AQI docking at 78, according to the latest estimates updated by System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR). 

'Satisfactory air in Delhi

Most of the areas in Delhi recorded good quality air on Tuesday. According to SAFAR estimates updated at 8.30 am, Delhi University, Chandni Chowk, Pusa, Lodhi Road, Mathura Road, Ayanagar and IGI Airport (Terminal-3) recorded the air quality in 'satisfactory' category with an AQI of 68, 65, 83, 86, 68, 78 and 70 respectively. 

According to SAFAR, AQI between the range of 51 and 100 is considered as 'satisfactory' or 'very good', 101-200 is 'moderate', 201-300 falls under the category of 'poor'. While 300-400 is considered as 'very poor', levels between 401-500 fall under the 'hazardous' category.

SAFAR forecast

"The overall Delhi AQI was in the satisfactory category on Monday as forecast. Fairly widespread rainfall is expected for the next few days. The satisfactory category is forecasted for Tuesday. AQI is likely to stay in the lower end of the satisfactory to the good category for 8th and 9th July," SAFAR forecast said.

Air quality in NCR 

After the lockdown was announced on March 25, the air quality in the NCR had improved considerably. On Tuesday, Noida (Sector 116) and Gurugra registered air quality in the 'good' category with an AQI of 75 and 75. respectively.
