To enhance the safety of students in the area, North Delhi Municipal Corporation, NDMC has released a circular framing the ‘minimum safety standards’ to be followed by primary schools.

To enhance the safety of students, North Delhi Municipal Corporation, NDMC has released a circular framing the ‘minimum safety standards’ to be followed by primary schools in the area. Not following the norms may lead to the civic agency taking action against the schools.

The guidelines will have to be followed by the corporation schools and the aided schools. In the list of the safety guidelines, the Corporation has directed the formation of a school safety sub-committee within 15 days followed by organizing monthly safety walks by the committee members. The committee members will have to submit the compelled report after few days.

The report that will be prepared by the committee members will have information whether the schools are following the 116 safety points issued by the Corporation or not. The points include directions on the height of boundary walls, CCTV cameras at gates, at least two guards at the main gate and separate entry for parking of buses.

Along with that, after proper verification of visitors, the passes for entry into schools will be permitted by the school. The identity cards of staffs, students will be regularly checked before entry into schools. As per the guidelines, the principal’s office will be located near the entry gate of the school.

The civic agency will also construct a committee to check the building structural safety. The committee will comprise of four parents and head of the schools to check if the school has a structural safety certificate.

While talking to TOI, a senior education official from the north corporation said that, “These norms were shared with school administration last year as well, but as they were not adhered to properly, we decided to share them again. The officials will ensure their strict compliance for the safety of students this time.”

Furthermore, to reach out to parents, safety complaint boxes will also be set up at a couple of prominent areas.
