Gandhinagar: BJP chief Amit Shah creates a massive vote margin while CJ Chavda trails

Gandhinagar: The Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency went to polls in the third phase of the 2019 general elections on April 23. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah contested from the seat, which was earlier held by party patriarch Lal Krishna Advani who had represented this seat six times in the Lok Sabha. He was pitted against Congress's CJ Chavda.

The first election in the Lok Sabha for the constituency was held in 1967. Gandhinagar is one of the 26 Lok Sabha seats from the state of Gujarat in the lower house of Parliament. It is divided into seven State Legislative Assembly segments. The seat is considered to be a traditional stronghold of the BJP. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had also won the seat in 1996. Lying on the banks of Sabarmati river, Gandhinagar is also the Capital of Gujarat.

In 2014 Lok Sabha elections, LK Advani of the BJP defeated Kirtibhai Isvarbhai Patel of the Congress by a margin of 4,83,121 votes or 42.5 per cent votes. He had been winning the constituency for five consecutive times since 1998.

Gujarat is the home state of PM Narendra Modi who was the Chief Minister of the state before 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP won all the 26 Parliamentary constituencies of Gujarat in the 2014 general elections.

Elections for all the Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat were held in the third phase on April 23.

The results will be announced on May 23.
