Chandigarh: The Hisar Lok Sabha constituency went to polls on May 12 as part of the sixth phase of the 2019 general elections. Sitting Member of Parliament and founder of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), Dushyant Chautala is contesting for a second consecutive term in the lower house of Parliament. The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate is Brijendra Singh while the Congress has fielded Bhavya Bishnoi as its candidate. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) candidate is Suresh Kot. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is being represented by Surender Sharma.

The Hisar constituency is one of the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state of Haryana. The constituency is divided into nine State Legislative Assembly seats.

In the 2014 general elections, Dushyant Chautala, then representing the INLD defeated Kuldeep Bishnoi of the now disbanded Haryana Janhit Congress - Bhajan Lal (HJC-BL) party with a margin of 2.76 per cent or 31,847 votes. The win made Dushyant Chautala the youngest MP ever in Indian parliamentary history for which he holds a record in the Limca Book of Records.

Dushyant Chautala is the grandson of former Chief minister of Haryana Om Prakash Chautala and great grandson of former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal Chautala who founded the INLD in 1996. However in December 2018, after being expelled from the party, Dushyant Chautala launched the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) gathering a massive amount of following from the state.

The JJP decided to contest the 2019 general elections in an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) giving the party three seats out of the 10 to contest from. The JJP is contesting from the other seven Lok Sabha seats in Haryana.

Congress candidate Bhavya Bishnoi is the son of Kuldeep Bishnoi who served the Hisar constituency in the Lok Sabha from 2011 to 2014 as a HJC-BL politician. The HJC-BL merged with the Congress in 2016.

BJP candidate Brijendra Singh is the son of incumbent Union Minister of Steel Birender Singh in the Narendra Modi-led NDA government. Brijendra Singh is an IAS officer.

The entire state of Haryana goes to polls on May 12 covering all the 10 Lok Sabha constituencies, the results of which will be announced on May 23.
